SANDRA AGBESSI
Art consultant . Independent curator . Publisher

Born in Brussels, of a Belgian mother and a Togolese father, Sandra Agbessi is graduate in management. After several years in communication, marketing and event management, she invests the artistic universe by confronting herself with the tribal art of western Africa and develops several projects and reflections on the art Moba of the North Togo (“Moba Exhibition of the North of Togo” in 1999; “Moba Art – Synthesis I” in 2001; “Moba – the Second Synthesis” in 2002). She conceives several exhibitions putting in dialogue the works of contemporary artists and pieces of tribal art, with the will to offer a different reading and an innovative vision.

In 2002, she establishes Fine Art Studio, a space devoted to contemporary art with international vocation and concentrates on activities and projects promoting emergent and confirmed artists.  In paralell she sets up a platform to assemble documentation and archives on African contemporary art. Fine Art Studio develops and presents multiple projects and exhibitions of contemporary art and sets collaborations with the artists and the participants with the aim of creating an interaction between the public and the institutional universe.

Consultant for public and private institutions, Sandra Agbessi focuses on curating exhibitions and art shows, advising on building and shaping art collections and on coordinating projects of publications in association with artists and actors of the international artistic scene (custodians, historians, critics).

In 2014, Sandra Agbessi sets up Le Laboratoire in Lomé, Togo, confirming her commitment to explore new and innovative trends and offering new perspectives and opportunities to contemporary art in Lomé through greater visibility for the established and emergent artists. Not only a place of meetings and exchanges for the artists and institutions but also for the local loméen, regional and international public. The Laboratory Lomé has also developped educational programs in the form of workshops for children, writing workshops for adults and evening meetings with the public together with each exhibition.

At the present time, Sandra Agbessi dedicates herself through Agbessi Contemporary Art & Fine Art Publishing, to the curating of exhibitions, to artists’ representation and to the realization of art publications through her expertise and through confirmed collaborations.
