Depuis de nombreuses années, Pierre Amrouche arpente l’Afrique dans la complaisance de son statut d’étranger. L’Afrique est un choix, l’Afrique est son choix. Jours Tranquilles au Bénin est un travail photographique qui témoigne d’une sensualité prenante, d’une période heureuse, d’une période d’amitiés, d’une époque où la ville de Cotonou était très différente d’aujourd’hui, c’était les années 1990.
Dans cette série de photographies, les notions d’atmosphère, de complicité, d’échange et de fantasme sont palpables. Des séquences captant l’intimité des moments de partage, un sentiment d’apaisement, des modèles qui dorment, des photographies sans aucune lumière, autant d’instants volés composent Jours tranquilles au Bénin.
Dans cette publication, les photographies apparaissent en sept séquences ponctuées par des poèmes et des extraits de carnets de voyage de l’artiste.
For a number of years, Pierre Amrouche has surveyed Africa from various angles, stunned by his discovery of the continent, in the complacency of his status as a foreigner. Africa is a choice, Africa is his choice. Jours tranquilles au Bénin (Quiet Days in Benin) is a photographic work that bears witness to a fascinating sensuality, a happy time, a time of friendship, an age when Cotonou was a very different city from the one we know today, back in the 1990s.
In this series of photographs, the notions of atmosphere, complicity, exchange and fantasy are palpable. Sequences capturing the intimacy of shared moments, a feeling of deep calm, sleeping models, photographs with no light, each one is a stolen instant that together make up Jours tranquilles au Bénin.
